Role Summary:

  • Our client, a Wexford based food & beverage manufacturer is currently seeking to recruit an experienced permanent Manager, Process/Projects Engineer for its manufacturing and innovation facility.
  • This role is a key member position and is required to manage projects, process improvement, R&D, process development and scale-up activities, and manufacturing support activities across the various areas of the facility. The person in this role shall act as the process engineering subject matter expert for the facility:
    • The Facility is an Upper Tier HSA Sevesso establishment, and as such this role will play a key role in maintaining and improving process safety.
    • Manufacturing process involves unit operations that contribute and result in separation, filtration & blending. Process knowledge of the techniques utilised will be key.
    • The Facility has embarked on an ambitious Sustainability and Zero Carbon program of works; this role will greatly contribute to this as the site evolves the way it engages with utilities to achieve processing requirements.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare technical project proposals, including budget, for inclusion in site capital plans ensuring projects are justified and feasible before submission for approval
  • Manage project implementation achieving goals on time and within budget while leading multi-disciplinary, cross department project teams using a structured approach to project management with clear reporting on program, cost and issues
  • Manage external multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy companies and contracting companies through design and construction for large capital projects including scope development, tendering/negotiation, contract award and performance monitoring.
  • Lead technology transfer projects from other company sites
  • Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary, cross department process improvement teams to enhance manufacturing effectiveness in the areas of quality, productivity, cost, etc.
  • Lead and participate in R&D, process development and scale-up activities as required
  • Provide process support to operations, technical and engineering areas as necessary with prompt action to close issues and complete tasks
  • Work with operations, technical and engineering teams to develop future operations, process improvement and capital expenditure requirements, with appropriate business justifications based on projected throughput
  • MOC – Management of Change activities ensuring they are completed to Company and recognized industry safety/quality/engineering standards
  • Interact with scientific/regulatory personnel from government agencies as required
  • Manage and maintain all relevant engineering documentation ensuring that information is current, supporting the Company programmes; safeguarding and protecting all the Company information and property

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Process or Chemical Engineering is essential
  • At least 10+ years’ experience in a high-tech, large volume, manufacturing environment, typically beverages, pharmaceuticals, food or healthcare
  • Ability to lead capital and/or high-profile projects that involve cross functional teams and to be able to manage large budgets, multiple suppliers and/or team members
  • Demonstrated ability to manage design and construction management contracts in the process industry
  • Ability to use engineering principles to troubleshoot existing area/plant layouts and design, plant equipment, control systems and installation/maintenance issues in an efficient and effective manner
  • Experience and knowledge of the design and development of integrated automation systems, knowledge and skill in selecting instrumentation for process control and standards used in the development of process control systems
  • Knowledge of industry standard installation methods for electrical power
  • Knowledge of project management principles and the ability to apply the techniques and tools to develop/plan manage or execute projects or workplans to ensure successful completion
  • Experience of Capital Projects (specification, design, installation, commissioning, cost control, purchasing, contract, planning & scheduling, risk analysis & avoidance etc)
  • Be fully familiar with all regulatory and Best Practice with respect to Construction, Design & Management, Atex Regulations, Safety, Pressure Regulations, Permit Procedures, Building Regulations, HAZOP, COMAH, Sevesso, Electrical Regulations, etc.
  • Experience of Change Management in relation to delivering Process Safety.
  • Good knowledge of Process Control and Automation of PLC, Device Net, Control Net, Ethernet and related equipment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent planning, analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills, with ability to manage and prioritise multiple conflicting demands
